PITCHMAP

PITCHMAP is the world's first and only plug-in that allows processing the pitch of individual sounds within mixed signals in real-time. It lets you change the melodies and harmonies of any recording by simply playing your own on a MIDI keyboard or creating a pitch map using our stream-lined GUI, and optionally corrects any tuning issues at the same time. As if that weren't enough, PITCHMAP provides functions to suppress individual sounds within a mix, and can apply advanced synthesizer-like sound transformations to your audio. In short, it is an inspiring musical instrument, a precision corrective tool and the only processor that literally lets you shape music with your hands.

I'm getting a DAE error when I try to use the preview function in AudioSuite...why?

To use the preview functionality of the AudioSuite version, you need to use Pro Tools 10.3.4 or newer, earlier versions will not work. Please update your Pro Tools install accordingly.

What Is UNVEIL?

UNVEIL is a real-time plug-in that allows attenuating or boosting reverb components within a mixed signal of any channel count, including mono. It utilizes state-of-the-art artificial intelligence technology to recognize reverb and other perceptively insignificant components and then uses this knowledge to de-mix/separate those components from the signal. If that sounds like science fiction to you...well, "science" is correct. "Rocket science", to be precise.

UNVEIL CPU Load Optimisation

UNVEIL uses some very complex mathematics, and thus uses a considerable amount of CPU processing time. Here are a couple of suggestions how you can get the most out of your CPU:

  • Try increasing buffer sizes in your host software to their largest values, then gradually bring them back down until you find a suitable balance between latency and CPU load. In Logic Pro, this also includes the "Process Buffer range" parameter. We recommend using an I/O buffer size of at least 1024 samples.
  • Try closing the GUI of any plug-in that you don't currently need to have visual feedback on, including UNVEIL after adjusting settings.
  • Quit any open applications that are not needed.
  • In Logic Pro, all processes that are fed by a live source are processed on one CPU core. Bounce/record any live inputs feeding into UNVEIL to allow Logic to assign cores as needed. "Live" inputs include Instrument tracks that are record enabled.
  • In ProTools, using a multi-mono instance is preferable to using a stereo instance in terms of CPU consumption, as this allows ProTools to render the channels on separate cores.
  • In ProTools 10, render to a new file by pasting the setting used in a real-time instance into the AudioSuite version of UNVEIL for processing. The RTAS plug-in does not support AudioSuite.
  • In general, when using multi-channel versions of the plug-in, please bypass any channels that you don't really need to de-reverberate (like the LFE channel, for example).

Does UNVEIL Introduce Latency? How Much?

UNVEIL needs to look at a certain amount of signal to be able to discern what parts are reverb and which aren't - so yes, it introduces 4096 samples of latency. These will of course be compensated for on playback by hosts that support latency compensation, but can not be compensated for when a live input is being processed.

For live TV broadcast applications, chances are that your video streams are being post-processed anyway, which typically introduces similar or larger amounts of latency, so you may be able to sync audio to picture by adapting your overall audio latency compensation.

Is UNVEIL a "Transient Shaper" or Other Type of Dynamics Processor?

No. UNVEIL is no expander, gate, transient shaper or de-noiser-like process. It uses pattern recognition and our MAP de-mixing process to separate reverb from a signal and then allows you to change their relative levels.

This translates into UNVEIL removing reverb even during other sounds, not removing soft sounds in "RMS gaps" and generally leaving the dynamics of your signal intact (unless, of course, you want to modify dynamics, which you can also do to some extent).

Does UNVEIL Affect Phase?

No. UNVEIL does not require inter-channel phase information, and does not manipulate phase to achieve it's effect.

Version 1.5 Did Not Overwrite Version 1.0x - Why?

We leave the version 1.0x installation in place to ensure backwards compatibility - version 1.5 has a different parameter ordering and a different plug-in identifier, so your sessions would break if we removed the v1.0x plug-in. You can tell the two apart simply: the v1.0x plug-in is called "UnveilAU", the v1.5x plug-in "UNVEIL". We suggest replacing v1.0x instances in your sessions & removing v1.0x once done.
